Fitness Assessments

Ages 60+

A fitness assessment is a great way to gauge your current fitness level. Trainers use a series of measurements to evaluate your level of fitness, compared to fitness standards for your age group. Assessments take around 30 minutes and can include body mass index, resting heart rate, blood pressure, flexibility, endurance, cardiovascular fitness and strength. Space is limited; register in advance.

Ages 14+

Slim Down Springfield is back and better than ever. Register as an individual or a two person team. Your entry in this weight loss competition includes access to the fitness center at Bob Keefer Center; free trials of select fitness classes; free entry to Healthy Weight Loss for Life; weekly prizes and end-of-competition cash prizes. Participants attend weekly Wednesday weigh-ins to document progress. Prizes are awarded to the top weight loss percentages of at the end of the competition. Silver Sneakers Circuit

CANCELED • Combine fun with fitness to increase endurance with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. Qigong

Ages 18+

Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) uses soft, fluid and harmonious movements to improve energy circulation, loosen the joints, tone up and oxygenate the muscles and relax the nervous system. Qigong can be used as preventive, curative and recuperative treatment. There are both standing and sitting forms, making qigong accessible to people of all ages and physical conditions. Pickleball

Pick up a paddle and try a new sport! Pickleball is a game played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic baseball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game. Drop-in. Please call ahead to verify space.

Suggested drop-in times for beginner pickleball players is Tuesday and Thursday, 12-2 p.m. For beginner and advanced beginner lessons, email Roger Schaljo, or call 541-214-4940.
