Willamalane has purchased two large parcels that will comprise a trail system and natural area park along the Thurston Hills ridgeline. Willamalane purchased 136 acres adjacent to the MountainGate and Jasper Meadows subdivisions from Weyerhaeuser NR Co. and a 4-mile log truck road from Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Development Co. for a combined $3.6 million. Separately, Willamalane purchased 176 acres adjoining the 1872 Gray-Jaqua Homestead, between 75th and 79th streets, south of Highway 126. The district is in discussions with landowners to acquire more property along the ridgeline, which will preserve views, wildlife habitat and sensitive natural areas; and provide walking, hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Construction will begin on the area in spring or summer 2017.
