Willamalane volunteers make a difference!  With your help, Willamalane can continue to provide exceptional park and recreation services for people of all ages. For information about volunteer opportunities click on the tabs below or click here to contact the volunteer coordinator.

Read our volunteer opportunities below, then fill out the application to send us by mail or fax.

After we receive your application the volunteer coordinator will contact you to schedule an appointment for an interview, so we can match opportunities to your interests. Once the orientation and criminal background check are completed, a supervisor will schedule a time to get you trained and on your way to becoming a Willamalane volunteer!

+ Adult Activity Center

Adult Activity Center

Openings at the Adult Activity Center may be limited, but we always have volunteer opportunities throughout Willamalane. Contact us to learn more!

Greeter

Be the first smiling face a person sees after walking in the front door of the Adult Activity Center! The greeter welcomes newcomers and established participants, shares information about programs and activities and answers questions. The greeter also maintains coffee and supplies at the coffee bar, and assists the office with miscellaneous tasks. Monday afternoon and substitute positions available.

Gift Shop Clerk

Gift Shop clerks help customers in the Adult Activity Center’s consignment shop. Clerks also maintain the appearance of the shop and assist with special orders and layaways. Experienced clerks may be trained to do consignments. Sub positions available.

Special Events Assistant

Be part of the fun at the Adult Activity Center! The center holds a variety of special events throughout the year. Volunteers assist by decorating, preparing food, taking tickets and serving guests. Tasks vary depending on the event.

Office Assistant

Join a work party to get out a big mailing! This is a fun way to meet new friends or spend time with people you know while helping the center. The center also needs help each month with miscellaneous tasks.

Meals on Wheels

Volunteer just a few hours a week will enrich your life and the lives of those you visit by delivering a nourishing noon meal and a friendly hello to a home-bound older person; it will fill your day, and theirs, with joy! Sometimes you may be the only person the Meals on Wheels recipient will see all day. For more information or to become a Meals on Wheels volunteer, please call 541-682-4368. Various driver shifts available.

Men's Breakfast Dishwasher

Third Thursday of the month, 7-9 a.m.

A wonderful group of gentlemen is looking for someone to help wash dishes for this monthly event. Must be able to repeatedly lift 25 pounds and stand for two hours at a time. 

+ Athletics

Climbing

Thursdays, 4-6 p.m., Willamalane Center

The Willamalane climbing program is looking for volunteers eager to help get kids excited about climbing. Climbing experience is preferred but basic training may be provided if a volunteer is otherwise qualified. Most importantly volunteers should be ready to help create a fun, safe environment for kids of all ages. Volunteers may also be utilized for events and groups. Duties include but are not limited to: fitting kids with shoes and harnesses, belaying on the roped wall, and monitoring the bouldering wall.

 

+ Parks

Help improve a trail, restore wildlife habitat and put your skills to use. Willamalane provides gloves, tools and water at all work parties. Please tell us you’ll be coming by sending an email to parkservicesmailbox@willamalane.org or calling 541-736-4104. Youth must be 16 or older to volunteer without a supervising adult. 

Adopt a Park

Your group can adopt a park or a portion of a trail by volunteering to help during a specific time period. Call the volunteer coordinator at 541-912-4548 for a list of potential projects. Recently adopted parks include the grounds at Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation, adopted by Twin Rivers Rotary.

Ruff Park Work Parties

Friends of Ruff Park meets regularly to prune and care for this budding magnolia arboretum. Join them on the following Saturdays: March 18, April 22, May 20, June 24, Sept. 23 and Oct. 14.

A hot lunch will be provided at the end of the work party! Sign up in advance and we will make sure we have enough lunch for you, too!  Up to 20 spots available.

Landscape and Maintenance

Want to get involved with a rewarding project? You or your group can assist staff with trail maintenance, planting, painting, building, cleaning and various other tasks at our 45 different parks and open spaces.

Citizen Planning Committee for the Whilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park

Willamalane needs volunteers from Springfield for this committee. Apply here.
Fifteen volunteers — five from Springfield and 10 from Eugene — work on habitat, outreach, signage and other issues. Members serve three-year terms. More info

+ Special Events

Volunteers are needed to join our team for special events. Have fun, meet new people and contribute to a great community event! Contact Mavis Sanchez, 541-736-4039.

+ Youth Programs

Youth Programs

All volunteers go through an application process, which includes multiple background checks. Age restrictions apply.

Summer Playground

Camp programs and the summer playground program are offered throughout the summer for youth ages 5-14. Volunteers help with songs, games, crafts and field trips. This is a great opportunity for teen volunteers. Have fun with kids at indoor and outdoor locations.

Kids Club

Volunteers help with games, storytelling, crafts and fitness. Our programs are offered at several school locations as well as the Community Recreation Center. Share a special talent with school-age kids in one of our grant-supported enrichment programs. We have volunteer opportunities working with kindergarten through middle school-age students.

Preschool programs

Volunteers help our preschool programs by preparing materials, curriculum, and bulletin boards outside program hours.

Summer Camp

Shifts available Monday-Friday from mid-June to August at four camp locations. Summer camp is the best!  Volunteers needed to assist with Camp Kaboom (arts and science camp), Sports of All Sorts (sports camp), and Dorris Ranch Camp (nature-themed camp). Volunteers help lead activities and games, and make sure that everyone is having a good time.

Climbing Assistant

Adaptive Recreation Aide

Share your interest and talents while having fun with some great people! Volunteers help make it possible for people with disabilities to participate in Willamalane programs. They provide support and encouragement during activities such as Wii games, bingo and cooking.

Office Assistant

Volunteers provide a great service to the staff by assisting with data entry, filing, organizing and answering telephones. Duties include working with staff members and the public, answering phones and taking part in special projects as they come up.
