4 Ways to Spend a No-school Day

Three no-school days are looming in front of families across Springfield, and parents may be looking for something to occupy any number of small, active bodies who are still working through a Halloween candy stash.

Students in Springfield schools are off on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7, in addition to Tuesday’s Veterans Day holiday.

Young pilotWillamalane has a few ideas, starting with Thursday’s Paper Airplane Experience at Willamalane Center. The free event, from 4-7 p.m., offers an outlet for young aeronautical engineers to test their plane designs and compete for prizes. We’ll even have remote control aircraft demonstrations in the big gyms.

Willamalane also has two no-school day camps Thursday and Friday at Willamalane Center. Students will track down the answers to a number of mysteries during Guess Who?, on Thursday, and round out the day with a visit to Splash! at Lively Park. The mystery deepens on Friday, when Guess Who? Part Two examines the wonders of owls. We hear there’s a special guest. Whoooo might that be?

Both day camps run from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. to accommodate busy schedules.

And luckily, active kids have the option to unwind during special play swims at Splash! at Lively Park! The wavy water park is open 1-5 p.m. Thursday, 1-9 p.m. Friday and 1-5 p.m. Tuesday. Families can slide and splash the hours away — the perfect antidote to the spell cast by all that Halloween candy corn.
