Willamalane Park and Recreation District is celebrating all things birds during the month of April.
Island Park Gallery, located in the Adult Activity Center, is currently exhibiting “Travel Images: Birds of the Americas,” featuring photographs by Kit Larsen and paintings by Richard Weeks. Their work features the colorful and exotic birds found on their travels through Central and South America. The opening reception is Friday, April 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through May 26.
The Adult Activity Center is also featuring exquisite bird carvings created by the recently completed Bird Carving Class taught by Dick Jones. Don’t miss a chance to see this fine woodworking on display through April.
To see birds in the field, join us for a walk at Clearwater Park on April 14. This free presentation features presenters who will help you discover the resident birds, trees, and native plants of the riverside trail. Meet in the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and prepare to explore!
If you’re ready to go farther afield, the Adult Activity Center has added a second trip to the E. E. Wilson Wildlife Area on Saturday, April 23. Led by retired Lane Community College instructor Floyd Weitzel, the trip will visit the wildlife area and Albany’s Talking Water Gardens, a newer engineers wetlands. More than 195 bird species have been seen in these areas. Register soon to make sure you have a space on this trip!
