Exercise Essentials: No More Excuses

Bob Keefer, Willamalane superintendent, posed in blue shirt outside

It’s cold outside.

I don’t have time.

It’s such a bother to put on my swimming suit.

We all make excuses for why we can’t play, exercise or enjoy nature during the winter.  Here in Springfield we have fewer excuses. We may not control the weather, but we do have some of the very best places to play.

Have you been on the Middle Fork Path, where you can enjoy an outstanding view of Mount Pisgah? How about playing on one of Willamalane’s 25 playgrounds?

Willamalane offers two amazing aquatics centers, where the water is warm and the staff are friendly.

Willamalane also offers a full line of fitness classes available from early in the morning to later in the evening.

So let’s embrace winter and get outside. Did you know that for every $1 spent on trails there is almost $3 saved in direct medical costs? Recreation can enhance active living, helping limit the onset of disease and impairment.

Don’t have time to exercise? Research tells us that on average, every hour you spend exercising increases your life expectancy by two hours.

I guess it is time for me and all of us to quit making excuses and find time to invest in our health and wellness. I hope to see you on the trail, in a class, at the park, or in the pool.
