After a couple weeks of construction, we have successfully completed improvements at Ruff Park! This special area is an attraction in the Thurston area of Springfield that is well-known for its magnolia arboretum.
New additions to the park include an access driveway from 66th Street, a paved parking lot with accessible parking spaces, an informational kiosk, paved trails, benches, bike racks and additional landscaping. These changes will make the area more accessible to park visitors, especially those with limited mobility or experiencing a disability.
“Everything went as we expected,” said Simon Daws, landscape architect at Willamalane. “One cool new feature is an electronic gate at the new driveway that opens at 6 a.m. and closes at dusk.”
These changes were funded by the 2012 bond measure. As the lowest bidder, Pacific Excavation, Inc. was awarded the contract. The project cost approximately $350,000.
Willamalane is continuing to work on several more projects across Springfield, also funded by the bond measure. Simon Daws says Willamalane is now preparing for upcoming projects, including improvements to the playground in Meadow Park and further upgrades at the Willamalane Center sports park.
