Paddle in the Pool: Paddle, Roll & Rescue Basics

Ages 12+. How do you get that boat to go where you want it to? What do you do if it tips over? Join us in the pool for instruction on basic paddle strokes and self-rescue practice. Northwest Canoe Tour will have SUPs, kayaks and canoes at Willamalane Park Swim Center for you to experiment with. Try out a new water craft and take home a few new skills. Register in advance; no drop-ins.

Winter Waterfall Hike

Canceled. Ages 18+. One of Oregon State Parks “Crown Jewels” Silver Falls State Park has more than 9,000 acres of open space and over 24 miles of walking trails. This professionally guided trip will explore the Trail of Ten Falls a 7.2 mile loop that weaves through the densely forested landscape between rocky canyons, before descending to a winding creek at the forest floor. This is a moderate hike, with an overall elevation change of 800 feet.

Snow Shelters and Survival in the Cascades

Canceled. Ages 18+. Under the guidance of Outdoor Leader Wayne Beckwith you will spend a safe, fun and active day learning hands on how to build a successful snow structure. Along the way you will also be taught useful and lifesaving skills on how to survive in the wilderness during the winter months.

Moonlight Snowshoe Hike

Ages 8+. Strap on a pair of snowshoes and let the light of the moon guide you on this 3-mile round-trip tour of scenic views and snowy wilderness at Gold Lake (snow conditions permitting). For beginning and moderate skill levels; some elevation changes. Children ages 8-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will also attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting to discuss clothing, equipment and technique. Please bring your food and water. Space is limited.

Cross Country Skiing for Beginners

Ages 8+. Designed for beginning skiers, this trip includes pre-trip information and day-of instruction and guidance as you navigate some of the 20km of groomed trails around Willamette Pass Ski Area.

Children ages 8-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will also attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting to discuss clothing, equipment and technique. Participants need to wear sturdy boots and bring skis and poles, which can be rented at local outdoor outfitters. Space is limited. Leave from Bob Keefer Center.

Feeling Knotty? Knot Tying for the Beginner

Canceled. Ages 8+. In this fun hands on class you will learn the basics on knot tying and how a properly tied knot can secure your gear and ensure your personal safety. We’ll demonstrate and try a variety of knots. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Learn to Fish for Trout

Ages  8+. Just in time for a local free fishing weekend! Learn basic fishing techniques to use in Oregon’s beautiful lakes, rivers and streams. Learn how to interpret regulations, determine what equipment you need, tie a few knots and explore basic tackle options. Presented by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Angler Education Volunteers. Kids under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
