A message from Willamalane Superintendent Bob Keefer
Bring on summer! I am looking forward to spending more time outside in Willamalane’s parks.
We’ve got great ideas to fill your season with activities that will create lasting memories. We’re looking forward to the return of the Children’s Celebration on July 30, the debut of Tap & Taste on Aug. 27, the new Sounds Like Summer series — and, of course, our free Summer Playground Program.
Summer is also prime construction time; we’re working on projects that will make Springfield a special place. In cooperation with the city of Springfield, Springfield Utility Board and Springfield Public Schools, we plan to complete the Mill Race Path from the Booth-Kelly Mill Pond to the Middle Fork Path.
Staff are completing the Thurston Hills Natural Area Management Plan and will begin construction on the initial trail system this summer.
The next phase of development at the Les Schwab Sports Field at Willamalane Center will also begin this summer with additional parking and an improved grand entrance with a flag plaza.
These projects are all made possible by the $20 million bond for parks, trails and natural area approved in 2012. Thanks, voters, for your ongoing support!
