Parks Fill for Movies and Concerts

This summer saw crowds of picnic-bearing, toe-tapping, wide-eyed watching crowds attending a larger-than-ever series of movies and concerts in the park. Over 4,000 people came to enjoy these events.

The Movies in the Park series was a hit among families and groups of friends, as they joined us at the park to watch crowd favorites like ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘The Sandlot.’ They came not only for movies, but other activities like obstacle courses and photos with princesses.

“The pre-event activities were so popular, we know we’ll do more in the future,” said Kim Lyddane, special events coordinator. She said there was a lot of great feedback on the events, too. “Folks said they want a wide variety of movies next season, like date night movies,” Kim said. “We’ll take what they’ve said and build it into a great season.”

This was also a record summer for the Summer Concert Series, with more acts presenting than previous years. Jana Clark, special events coordinator, said that the five events were especially a hit with the 50+ crowd.

“The Summer Concert Series provides free entertainment, and local musicians are able to emphasize how important art is in our parks,” Jana said. “We are happy to bring positive programming to a variety of demographics.”

Special thanks to Sanipac and KVAL for their sponsorship and support during a summer full of fun community events.
