Winter break doesn’t have to mean long days of indoor boredom for squirrely kids. Willamalane Park and Recreation District offers some interesting ways to keep kids active and engaged.
One of the best things to do when wiggly kids have you climbing the walls is to give them the opportunity to climb the wall at Willamalane Center. Kids ages 5-11 can challenge themselves at Winter Climbing Camp, Dec. 22-23 and 29-30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $45 for each two-day session for district residents, $55 for people who live outside Willamalane boundaries.
Nothing beats the winter break blahs like play swims at Splash! at Lively Park and Willamalane Park Swim Center. Both pool facilities are open extended hours during winter break to provide more options to get kids moving; check willamalane.org for specific times.
When weather permits, it’s always fun to check out some of the newest outdoor playgrounds in Springfield. Visit brand new Pacific Park, on Shadylane Drive, or Quartz Park, which was added in 2013. Other favorites are Rob Adams Park, Lively Park, Willamalane Park and Jasper Meadows Park.
