Jesse Maine Memorial Park

Jesse Maine Park is a 2-acre neighborhood park with views across Thurston to the north east.

Jesse Maine Memorial Park is named after the first Black city councilor in Springfield. The park was dedicated in 1996 by Jesse's wife, Maureen Maine (now Maureen Weathers) after Jesse died of cancer. Maureen lead the restoration project fueled by volunteer efforts to create the park we see today. Jesse went about his friendships, business, and leadership on the council with a steady, dedicated thoughtfulness that touched many lives and made the world a better place. His seat on the city council made a significant impact in amplifying the voices of Black community members. This park serves as a reminder of Black leaders' contributions to our own community and inspires future generations to continue to fight for equity and justice in outdoor spaces and beyond.
